Extreme Equipment for Extreme Environments
21 March 2012 04:20 PM

FTS Director of Sales Chris Barteaux recently received an email from National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) electronics technician Monte J. Brown who had some interesting news about one of our sensors.
During a prescribed burn on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, a THS-3 temperature and humidity sensor attached to a QD3 Quick Deploy Portable RAWS had gotten a little too close to the fire line (or rather, the fire came a little too close to it!)
Upon its arrival back in the US, Monte attached a new cable and was amazed to discover that despite being the louvers being melted, the sensor continued to read within tolerance on both relative humidity and air temperature under ambient conditions.
As with all the high quality digital and analog sensors manufactured by FTS the THS-3 is built to perform in extreme conditions, and few environments are as extreme as those experienced in fire weather monitoring and management.
When we say our products are rugged and reliable, we really do mean it!

When we Say Rugged, We Mean Rugged

FTS weather stations are built to withstand a whole range of natural, and occasionally unnatural, conditions. Our equipment has survived hurricanes, bear attacks and even the attention of bored hunters and vandals.
We know FTS remote automated weather stations (RAWS) are usually located in remote and environmental hostile environments, which is why we build them so rugged.
But once in a while, even we’re astonished by what our weather stations can handle. Read More...
