FTS launches AirTalk, our next-generation radio voice transmitter technology

5/1/12

We are very pleased to announce AirTalk—our new radio voice transmitter technology.

AirTalk is an FTS short-range communications technology that is now integrated into the Axiom datalogger. It’s the successor to, and the replacement for the RVT, and offers several improvements over it, including louder and clearer voice and a graphical user interface for configuring it. It continues to work with the same radio systems as the RVT. AirTalk provides on-demand access to current weather conditions observed at a remote weather station, and automatically broadcasts alerts to crews when weather conditions change.

We have invested heavily in this product. The voice processing engine within AirTalk is based on technology used in Air Traffic control systems throughout Canada and the USA. Our goal was to provide unprecedented clarity of voice in the harsh and noisy environments surrounding fire operations. The new product (AirTalk) replaces the existing RVT which was approaching it’s end of life in terms of parts availability.

Providing solutions that enhance the safety of firefighters and the public is something that all employees of FTS feel very proud of.

We invite you to read more about this significant new product.

FTS hires new senior engineering manager and promotes 2 other managers

2/6/12

FTS is pleased to welcome Keith Campden to the position of Director of Engineering.

Mr. Campden brings considerable valuable expertise to FTS’ management team, with over 30 years of engineering experience and over 15 years of senior engineering management experience. Prior to his recent move to FTS, Mr. Campden was employed with global commercial sonar specialists Kongsberg Mesotech at their facility in Port Coquitlam. Mr. Campden also brings considerable expertise in wireless communications and high-tech products as the former Director of Product Development at Sierra Wireless and VP of Wireless Products at Cypress Solutions inc. of Burnaby, BC. Campden has long had an interest in environmental monitoring, partly born through his long-time involvement with BC Search and Rescue.

Coinciding with Mr. Campden’s recruitment, Philip Bartlett, who joined FTS in 1994, has been appointed to the position of Chief Technology Officer. As FTS’ first Chief Technology Officer, Bartlett will spearhead various research and development projects aimed at bringing further innovations to the growing FTS product line. Bartlett’s major accomplishments include the development of FTS’ market-leading satellite transmitter and the innovative touch-screen technology introduced to the Axiom datalogger weather monitoring systems.

Finally, Chris Barteaux has been appointed to the position of Director of Sales where he will oversee FTS’ established and dominant fire weather division and the smaller but rapidly growing hydrology and meteorology divisions. Barteaux joined FTS ten years ago as a member of the sales team, cultivating a strong connection to the wild land re community and eventually leading the re weather division of the company.

FTS New Product Development Survey

6/23/11

Throughout our 30 year history, FTS has actively sought feedback from our customers for the design and development of new products and the refinement of existing products. So now's your chance to help guide development on the products you want. If you would be willing to take our short New Product Development Survey, we would really appreciate it. In fact, if you can find 10 minutes to fill it out before July 8, 2011, we will send you one of our brand new FTS baseball caps! You get to design your own products and you get some premium FTS wear. Unbelievable!
